"for He satisfies the hungry and fills the thirsty with good things."

Seekers

Humans are inherently seekers.

We run after fame and money. Search the world over for that one true love. Toil after our hearts desires.
We chase after dreams. Or at least wonder what we could have had if we did. We find solutions to problems. Like if we're hungry, we look for food; or we cook.
We even want to know the future. That's why fortune-tellers never go out of business.

Desire is good and seeking natural. The bible says that God has "...set eternity in the hearts of men..." (ecclesiastes 3:11). That is why we seem to always be in search of something. This is vital to our development. We have advanced because of curious people who dared search for answers at any cost. Ours is a race that built rockets to reach the moon, after all.

Since eternity has been set into our hearts, then that would mean we'd keep seeking till we find eternity...right? That would make us insatiable indeed! Well yes, if we seek eternity in all the wrong places. All the dreams we run after and all the things we yearn for will satisfy us only for a season. Sometimes we would find that what we sought couldn't satisfy us at all.

Why then has God put eternity in our hearts? So we wouldn't stop until we find what's really eternal. Or rather Who's eternal-- God Himself! He is Alpha and Omega. Scripture is dotted with exhortations on seeking God. Here are a few:

"You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart." -
          Jeremiah 29:13

"God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for
him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us."
         -Acts 17:27

"Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always."
          -Psalm 105:4

God's purpose for men is for them to seek Him. He has initiated this when He set eternity in our hearts. And now He has made eternity available to us. He is not a god who hides but One who delights in revealing Himself to us. He is a God who responds to true seekers. Read his words of invitation in Isaiah 55:

“Come, all you who are thirsty,
          come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
          come, buy and eat!
          Come, buy wine and milk
          without money and without cost.
Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labour on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and your soul will delight in the richest of fare."
                                             -Isaiah 55:1-2

When we run after other things, there is always a cost. But God is inviting us to a feast that is free. What is more, it is a feast that would satisfy us, to our heart's content.
